Dean grew up in Kenora Ontario Canada showing youth under the strong guidance of his father Brian Brown, an accomplished horseman himself. After graduating high school Dean realized that his passion for horses and the reining discipline. Dean traveled to Italy for 3 years to train reining horses, where he also became fluent in Italian. During this time he had many accomplishments including training the Italian Futurity Reserve Champion.

For ten years beginning 1996, Dean returned home to Kenora where he ran a very successfull reining horse business. Dean's current location in Hamilton Ontario Canada operates out of Blacks Equine Center, a world class training and show facility.
